What conditions must a safety rope have?

2022-06-22

Safety ropes are protective equipment to prevent people working at heights from falling. Because the greater the height of the fall, the greater the impact force, therefore, the safety rope must meet the following two basic conditions:

(1) It must have sufficient strength to withstand the impact force when the human body falls;

(2) It can prevent the human body from falling to a certain limit that can cause injury (that is, it should be able to pick up the human body before this limit, and it will no longer fall down). This condition needs to be explained again. When the human body falls from a high place, if it exceeds a certain limit, even if the person is pulled by a rope, the impact force is too great, and the human body will be damaged and died. For this reason, the length of the rope cannot be too long, and there must be a certain limit.

In terms of strength, safety ropes usually evaluate two strength indicators, namely tensile strength and impact strength. The national standard requires that the tensile strength (ultimate tensile force) of the seat belt and its strings must be greater than the longitudinal tensile force caused by the weight of the human body in the direction of falling.
